Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
Shepton Mallet
Trying to get rid of every anxious thought or painful feeling can become exhausting. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) explores how you can respond differently to those experiences while taking steps towards the life you want to lead.
At New Path Psychology, I offer a thoughtful space to explore what matters to you and what gets in the way. Together, we can consider whether ACT fits your needs and goals.
What is acceptance and commitment therapy
ACT brings together acceptance, mindfulness and practical changes guided by your values. It helps you notice thoughts and feelings without always having to fight them or follow their lead.
Acceptance does not mean approving of what has happened or giving up on change. It means finding more room for difficult internal experiences so that they do not have to determine every choice.
Making space for what matters to you
We may explore which parts of life feel important, where you feel disconnected and what a meaningful next step could look like. There is no requirement to have everything worked out before you begin.
Sessions can include noticing patterns, trying experiential exercises and identifying actions that reflect your values. We will relate these ideas to your everyday circumstances, rather than treat them as abstract concepts.
