Parent & Family Therapy
Shepton Mallet
When someone in the family is struggling, it can affect everyone. You may be worried about your child, finding communication difficult or feeling worn down by repeated conflict. It can help to have space to understand what is happening and think through how to respond.
At New Path Psychology, I work with parents, young people and families. My approach is flexible, with the people involved and the focus of sessions agreed according to your needs.
Support for parents and carers
Supporting a child or young person with emotional or mental health difficulties can bring uncertainty and stress. You may be unsure how to help, how to respond to difficult moments or how to look after your own wellbeing.
Parent-focused work offers time to explore these concerns, develop your understanding and consider practical responses to stressful family situations. The aim is to support you without blame or an expectation that you should already have all the answers.
Making room for different family perspectives
When appropriate, sessions can include partners or family members alongside individual work. This may help us understand different perspectives and consider patterns of communication that have become difficult.
We will discuss who should attend, what each person hopes to gain and how the sessions will work. Involving others is a considered decision, rather than something that happens automatically.
Discuss family support in Somerset
I have experience supporting adolescents and working with parents whose children are experiencing mental health difficulties. We can explore whether parent sessions, individual therapy or agreed family involvement would be most helpful.
If you are seeking parent or family therapy in Shepton Mallet, please contact me with a brief outline of your concerns so we can discuss a suitable starting point.
